The Steelers have a huge following in Mexico, and that was evident this past weekend when the team held two football camps in Mexico City, one for adults and one for youth.
The 2014 Steelers Football Camps in Mexico drew 300 fans each day for football instruction and drills from current and former Steelers’ players, including
The two camps, held at Unidad Cuauhtémoc, not only gave the fans everything from the basic knowledge to play the game to the intricacies of football, but also allowed them an opportunity to be up close with some of their favorite players.
“We put them through some of the things we did as young kids,” said Beachum of the drills they were doing. “We tried to tire them out.
“The fans are very genuine, loving. They have showered us with love. It’s been remarkable. I enjoyed every second down here.”
In addition to sharing their football knowledge with the kids, the players also shared with them some lessons about life and never giving up on their dreams.
“The biggest thing is to make up your mind what you want to do and commit yourself to it,” said Worilds. “We made the decision years ago ourselves that this is what we want to do and we worked to do that. To the kids, don’t let anything take you away from your dreams.”
