“Yeah, I’m in there,” Gilbert said after practice on Thursday.
Gilbert had been limited in practice in the week leading up to the Steelers’ 19-16 victory over Baltimore because of a quadriceps injury.
“I re-pulled it,” he said. “I knew there would be a chance I was going to re-injure it. I went out there and tried to give it my all.
“Once I felt it pop again I had to come out. It was the second series. We had a pretty long run to my side. When I got up on the linebackers I couldn’t anchor down. My leg just gave out.
“It’s completely fine right now.”
Gilbert was replaced by
“We obviously had some shuffling on the offensive line,” offensive coordinator Todd Haley said. “(Whimper) stepped in and did a commendable job, helped us win.
“One of the reasons we were excited about bringing him to the Steelers was that he had some notches on his belt, had started a bunch of games in the NFL. We knew there was experience there and obviously ability.
“I thought the entire line played probably their best game of the year. We obviously need them to keep getting better and keep coming together and playing like that.”
Haley said the question of Gilbert or Whimper at right tackle against the Raiders was “a head coach” question.
“We’re seeing where (Gilbert) is health-wise,” Haley said. “We’ll talk that through as the week goes on.”
