The following is the latest installment of Getting To Know, a chance to learn a little more about Steelers’ players who were added to the roster over the last few years.
Position: Defensive Tackle
College: Brigham Young
Years Pro: 2
How Acquired: Claimed off of waivers from Seattle in 2012.
Football Mentor/Inspiration: My coach at Mt. San Antonio Junior College, Iona Uiagalelei, the defensive coordinator. He was a great coach. I had only known football for about a year and for him to have the patience to teach me the game. He taught my stance, how to rush, how to attack things. He was the one that taught me there are three timeouts in a half. I thought it was the whole game. He also warned me don’t you dare call a time out. He was a good man, patient with me and believed in me from the start.
Proudest Football Moment/Memory: Last year making the team. I was scared. I was nervous. I came out here fighting and my only choice was to make the team. I sat here waiting for hours and finally got the call that I made the team.
Favorite Teammate: There are a lot, but I will say
Initial NFL Attraction: It was a great chance to get ahead in life and provide for my family. I learned a lot from playing the game, had the chance to network with some people. I have come to appreciate and love the game. You would be lying if you didn’t say the money was good too. It’s a nice paycheck.
Football Mindset: Dream to be the best. Coach (John) Mitchell sets the standard, you run to the ball and you touch the ball.
Impression of Pittsburgh: A lot of bridges. A lot of hills. You can’t walk it.
Perception of Steelers: Great defense. I remember coming in and having an interview with Coach (Mike) Tomlin and he asked if I would like to play for the team, and I thought it would be awesome to play in a dominating defense.
Goals/Aspirations for 2014: Make the team, help the team, and help the team win. I made the team last year, this year I want to contribute and have my chance.
Career Goals: I want to make it past seven years in this league.
