Thank you to the more than 4,000 participants who set a new attendance record at the 25th Annual Gatorade/Steelers 5K. 2013 marked the 25th anniversary of the Gatorade/Steelers 5K Race, Fitness Walk and Kids' Kickoff Run. The race is the major fundraiser for the Art Rooney Scholarship Fund and features a 3.1-mile level course on the North Shore highlighted by a spectacular finish inside Heinz Field. This year, safety Ryan Clark and former wide receiver Louis Lipps chaired the race.
Gatorade is the title sponsor of the race. Major sponsors include Giant Eagle, Dick's Sporting Goods, Fuel Up to Play 60, Nike, KDKA-TV 2, WDVE-FM, ESPN Radio 970 and UPMC Centers for Rehab Services.
The Art Rooney Scholarship Fund was established in 1990 in memory of Steelers founder, Arthur J. Rooney Sr. In partnership with the Pittsburgh Promise, the fund annually provides college scholarships for three graduating seniors at high schools located on Pittsburgh's North Side, where Art Rooney lived most of his life.
